Vice President Sales – Tomato & Papaya

Job Objective:
Develops objectives for the sales of the company’s tomatoes and papayas. Directs the activities of the sales personnel. Continually evaluates the company’s market share position and implements policies and procedures necessary to improve Calavo’s competitive market position. Provides market intelligence and advice to other members of the company’s management team. Responsible for the achievement of the company sales budgets, volume objectives, profitability and competitive grower return target.
Essential Job Functions: The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Directs activities of the tomatoes and papayas sales team to achieve company objectives for sales volumes, profitability, competitive grower returns and market penetration.
- Provides sales forecasts. Recommends short and long term sales goals.
- Provides strategic and tactical direction to and for the company’s tomatoes and papayas sales division.
- Provides leadership, direction, training, management, and sales support. Coordinates field sales efforts to enhance the ability of sales personnel to work effectively and achieve goals.
- Directs the management of sales promotional activities. Ensures promotional effectiveness while operating within budget.
- Provides senior sales perspective on competitive situations, market conditions, customer viewpoint and trade related issues.
- Directs the management of trade relations. Establishes a customer management structure that provides the most effective customer coverage.
- Manages departmental budgets consistent with established corporate direction.
- Direct contact with grower partners to strategize varieties, forecasts, program vs. open market, quality and market conditions.
- Other duties and projects as assigned or required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Bachelor’s degree (BA) from an accredited four-year college or university (MBA preferred).
- Ten+ years related experience in a similar position and within a similar industry.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to lead people and get results through others.
- Possess problem analysis and resolution at both a strategic and functional level.
- Possess technical skills in strategic planning and marketing, business and market development, market research and planning and promotions/advertising.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including presentation skills.
- Computer proficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to develop high performance teams.
- Proven track record in fresh produce sales. Tomatoes preferred
- Ability to travel when required throughout the United States, and Mexico’s tomato growing regions.

Compensation
- The base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role is: $172,000.00-$295,700.00.
- The actual salary for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s skills and experience.
- Please note that base pay is one important aspect of a compelling Total Rewards package. The base pay range indicated here does not include any additional benefits or cash bonuses that you may be eligible for based on your role and/or employment type.
